Overview

The Frozen Wastes of Draakengard (DRAAK-en-gard, IPA: /'drɑːkɛn.gaɹd/) are located at the northwestern end of Tellus Nova, with Druzhiyova to the east and Eisenstaat to the south. The former homeland of Dragonkind, the Wastes are now little more than a swath of sparsely populated land, boasting only a handful of mining or research settlements, a few nomadic tribes, and the occasional dragon. The Wastes are of little value to any of the nations of Earth, and so have remained unclaimed for centuries. The mountains are treacherous enough to discourage most miners, and there is little else of value in the area. Most of the mining settlements are Dwarven, as they have a greater tolerance for the cold.

Regions

One section of the Wastes is much like any other. This, combined with the bitterly cold weather, make it a dangerous place for outsiders. There are rumors of ancient ruins deep in the Wastes, but few dare to brave the cold weather and treacherous terrain—and those few that do return half-dead, if they return at all.

Government

Without a unified populace, the Wastes have no centralized government; the settlements are fairly insular, forming tight-knit communities that keep primarily to themselves. Little is known about the nomads, save that most of them form a loose alliance of tribes and worship an ice goddess. Most will have little to do with the other settlements, except for the few tribes that bring pelts and leather to trade for food and tools.

Foreign Relations

Each of the settlements tenuously represents one of the other countries of Tellus Nova, but they are primarily concerned with their own survival. Because of this, natives to the Wastes are extremely wary of non-"Wasters", generally viewing such outsiders as useless at best and a danger to the community at worst.
