The Laquiri, as held by Sye Dalziel, Parus Vandir, and Ken Hiyama.

The Laquiri, sometimes referred to as the Omega Gems, are a set of three gemstones of different color (green, red, and blue) with the ability to form constructs using spirit energy. When in the direct possession of a sentient being, they are able to form a mental connection with them and create these constructs by the user's will. As their will in a situation increases, often from desperation, their control over the Laquir becomes greater, allowing them to create more specific and complex objects from it. Practice using a specific Laquir also greatly helps with control, but only over that specific one, making it likely that each Laquir must "bond" with each user for a proper connection to establish.

A degree of artificial intelligence seems to be present in the Laquiri, as their users do not seem to have full control, with the Laquiri taking their users' thoughts and making their own assessement of the best way to achieve the intended goal. They have also shown the capability of adapting to situations they were not designed for, such as creating holes in the Two Year Gap barrier when supplied with enough power. In fact, when left on their own or attacked directly, the Laquiri have been shown to act in self-preservation without user input, although they are not invulnerable. This also seems to indicate that they contain some amount of reserve energy within themselves for emergencies.

All constructs created by a Laquir are directly connected to it and are purely temporary in nature, requiring a user's maintained focus and energy to keep them active. Additional energy outside of a user's spirit energy can be supplied to the Laquiri for use, although it is not their intended method of fueling, and does not seem to replace the requirement of user focus. Furthermore, the Laquiri cannot create an object that the user cannot understand, for the most part. While in some cases a Laquir has been shown to be able to "fill in the blanks" in an object's function that the user doesn't have a complete understanding of, these cases generally require the user to understand the majority of what would make that object work.

One final ability of the Laquiri is that they can track down other objects made by the same race that created the Laquiri themselves, although they cannot track each other. The reasons for why they have this ability are unclear.

History

The Laquiri were created by an unknown, advanced race thousands of years ago. Their primary designer was Bocefus, who placed a copy of his consciousness within all three Laquiri. At some point prior to The Great Exodus in 0 AE, they were entrusted to the Orkans of Umbra Terra. The Orkans kept them safe until the Fall of Orka in 305 AE, which led to the death of the vast majority of their people. While the fates of the green and red Laquiri during this time are unknown, the blue was known to be in the possession of one of the few surviving Orkans, residing on the island of Slotheim. This Orkan kept the blue Laquir on the island, where it passed down through the generations for the next 2,000 years.

It would be a long time before any notable activity rose up regarding the Laquiri, with the green Laquir being discovered in 1929 AE by Harterus Pescora. Unaware of its origins, Pescora passed the stone down through his family, naming it the "Omega Gem". It eventually fell into use by Omorius Dalziel in the 24th Century AE. Dalziel was later tasked by his superiors in the Svaldic government to track down both the red and blue Laquiri, a task he remains working on to this day.

In 2305 AE, a small number of Orkan survivors awoke in stasis chambers in the ruins of Orka. One of them, Parus Vandir, rose to leadership and set out to retrieve Orkan artifacts for rebuilding their society. He discovered that Peter Delium possessed the red Laquir, and killed him for it in 2307 AE. Parus then used it to both track down more artifacts and to brutalize any in his way, including a member of the group known as The Old Gang. During a mission in 2314 AE to recover one such previously owned artifact, the red Laquir was stolen from Parus by Granmir the Firebringer. It remained in his control for two and a half years until his defeat by The Old Gang in 2316. It disappeared after this, and its current whereabouts are undetermined, although Ken Hiyama and the man from Petrarca appear to be aware of where it is hidden.

Following the loss of the red Laquir, Parus lost his drive to lead the Orkans, remaining this way through the Two Year Gap. In December 2321, he was contacted in a dream by the being known as "the everyman" (in the guise of the Orkan goddess), telling him to retrieve the three Laquiri and use them to make a precision strike on the Gap's barrier. He claimed this would allow Parus to bring the Orkans from 314 AE to the present, which it likely would, but his true intent was for such a strike to utterly shatter the ancient prison in place over the Nameless Ones. Believing this to truly be a mission from the goddess, Parus rallied the Orkans to find the three Laquiri.

Parus' first lead came in the form of the Ivory Arch Tournament in 2322, where Sye Dalziel appeared using the green Laquir, which he had recently taken from his father. Parus held on going after Sye as to not attract undue attention. He instead set out to find a method of tracking the Laquiri, earning him the renewed ire of Ganchi Hiaba, a member of The Old Gang, but also finding a major lead on how to track the Laquiri.

Through unreleated means, Parus discovered that Fredrik Eingdahl was hiding the blue Laquir on Slotheim, and sent Aberrant and Sinmas to retrieve it. Events here become murky. Originally, Aberrant succeeded at not only retrieving the blue Laquir, but also the green from Sye, who had been one of the people Eingdahl had invited to the island. This led to the man from Petrarca (who was an alternate version of Ganchi) to forcibly retrieve the red Laquir and break the Gap barrier to travel back in time to before the Gap. This third Ganchi took great effort to destroy his additional Laquir (as time travel meant two now existed), and went under the name Ken Hiyama as he set out to prevent the events at Slotheim from repeating themseleves. He succeeded, and Aberrant was killed rather than retrieving the Laquiri. The blue Laquir fell into the possession of Adrien Lex, who has safely hidden it away in an unspecified location.

  • Laquiri given to the Orkans prior to 0 AE.
  • All Laquiri were in the possession of the Orkans until around 314 AE.

Green (Koru)

  • Location unknown from 305 to 1929.
  • Discovered in 1929 AE by Harterus Pescora.
  • Passed down through Pescora's family, until Omorius Dalziel around 2300.

  • Due to the intervention of Ken Hiyama, Aberrant is stopped from retrieving the blue and green Laquiri.
  • Ken entrusted the blue Laquir to Adrien Lex, asking him to hide it away.
