At the outbreak of the Arenan Civil War, Jago Vasquez was part of the Southeast De la Arenan Army. However, he defected to the Northwest after meeting Colonel Ranzel De la Sar, who was the only man De la Sar had spared in battle. They worked together in battle, with Jago as his apprentice, quickly rising through the ranks to Major. Vasquez was also an expert poker player, which he used to high effect during the war.
In 2205, an altercation took place between them in Toledo, after De la Sar tried to protect a woman named Maria. This event ended De la Sar and Vasquez's friendship. After the time of the Colonel's death in 2210, Vasquez never showed up to his funeral. He tried to steal De la Sar's rifle, only to learn it had been replaced by a replica. Digging up the man's grave, he found a letter warning him not to search for it. Despite this, Vasquez spent a few years trying to track it down, succeeding in 2217, but he could never bring himself to use it.
After his death in 2241, Vasquez lingered as a Ghost. In 2326, he helped Enos locate the lost rifle.
