Overview

Banivia is in no short supply of things to worry about, and in typical fashion yet another of the great afflictions to devastate mankind began there. It is believed that the original Werewolf was a magician named Lycan, and the apprentice to a great empress of a kingdom long forgotten. He fell from her favor when it was discovered that he was using peasants in his cruel magical experiments, and in return she placed a curse upon him. For the rest of his life, at night he would take on the appearance he had concealed from her for so long. He would become a ravenous and insatiably hungry wolf. Disgraced and hunted at every turn, the cursed warlock fled the kingdom and preyed upon unprotected villagers by night. Most disturbing was the fact that those who survived would themselves become victims of the curse.

Whether or not the story is true, the conventional understanding is that at some point there was an original man afflicted with a disease known simply as Lycanthropy. This unusual virus is incurable at advanced stages, and nearly so even when first inflicted. Many suspect it is more of a curse that passes along to the survivors of attacks rather than a disease, as its effects are radical. At night, the afflicted becomes a hulking wolf-man. All mortal compassion and memories are wiped during the metamorphosis, as the werewolf is a merciless killer that knows nothing but instinct.

Details

The transformation of a werewolf is brought on by a loss of self-control, generally anger. A werewolf is more likely to transform at night, particularly during the full moon.

Werewolves are, for the most part, very difficult to distinguish from normal specimens of their race during the day. As any mortal race can be infected by the disease, they blend in easily with their own and once transformed bare no resemblance to the original being other than sharing deep scars or missing pieces of the body.

The disease is passed on if any of the werewolf's bodily fluids enter a mortal's body, whether this be saliva through a bite, or their blood splashing into the mouth or another opening of the body. It's messy, just use your imagination how else this can happen. The werewolf need not be transformed to pass on the disease.

Werewolves are especially weak to minerals such as silver, making them a common ward used to protect a location from one.

Cures

Once you've been infected, there are only a few options, depending on how long you've waited to act. For the first week, you're safe from the effects of the disease. During this time, a special potion comprised of 1 Phoenix Blood, 5 Shojo Sap, and 10 Rue will cure the disease, which can be brewed successfully with 50 CHM. (This is different from the Legendary Potion known as the Dawn Potion.)

Exactly 1 week after you've been infected, your racial becomes werewolf and you are inflicted with *Severe Shock for a week, but you have not yet begun transforming at night. Until a second week has passed, the potion will still work, although you will still be under Shock.

Once *Severe Shock has worn off and you still haven't cured the disease, you are now a werewolf and you will transform for the first time at night. You are now healthy...technically, but you can no longer cure the disease with the original potion. You must either embark on a 50 paragraph pilgrimage in Banivia to seek a cure for your affliction, or you must consume a Dawn Potion, which can cure the disease even after it has taken its full effect.

These cure methods only work on normal werewolves. True Lycans (Also known as True Werewolves) are incurable by any means, as this is their natural race.

Noteworthy Werewolves

Racial Passive

Lycan's Curse (Racial Passive): By day, you are a tormented soul with bloodstained hands. By night, you are an uncontrollable beast of pure terror.

Cannot be killed except by enchanted weapons or Divine Sun weapons (can still be KOed regardless). Start with two additional “knowledge points” to spend on either Survival or Tracking (Or both. You can opt for taking a level 2 knowledge of the two instead). Start with Combat Dive Universal Passive for free at level 1.
Negatives: -10 to a social skill of choice. Awakening must have the Psychosis kickback. Enchanted and Elemental Earth weapons deal +5 damage PLM (these effects stack). The transformation of a werewolf is brought on by a loss of self-control, generally anger. A werewolf is more likely to transform at night, particularly during the full moon. (Transforming does not affect your stats in any way.)
