Overview

Following the movement to begin exploring the space around Disparatus and the colonization of several space stations and moons, the demand for able bodied space explorers and soldiers skyrocketed. It was at this point that a slew of new technology was formulated in the interest of surviving the hostile environments of the dark void. Thus, robotics moved to the forefront of scientific research.

While largely successful on the grounds they had originally intended to cover with said research, the process lead to some unexpected side effects, one of which being the over-advancement of A.I. In their attempts to create more intelligent robots capable of reasoning through complex scenarios, as well as potential diplomatic situations that they feared would arrive upon contact with other life, they accidentally broke through the line separating them from sentience. As such, many of the more experimental androids of that era found themselves newly born into a world that had no idea how to handle them.

Although many of the problem models were quickly disposed of, news of the breakthrough spread more quickly than the scientists responsible could cover up. A number of sentient androids were still around for journalists and activists to find, preventing them from being done away with, and fully revealing the discovery, as well as the technology that made it happen, to the public. Many called for the establishment of rights. Having no other choice without risking their reputation, and as some feared, their heads, most leaders within Disparatus conceded.

The rights of Androids match up with the rights of most other intelligent races on the planet, while also including Asimov's laws. However, due to the level of sentience in beings classified as Androids, some have developed the ability to surpass their programming and break the first law of robotics. However, doing so is considered highly illegal in most nations, and an Android caught doing is put at risk of being taken apart if caught. (Tournaments and certain other mandated events, however, have special permission to allow Androids to do harm for obvious reasons, as long as they stay within the rules of the tournament.)

The creation of new high intelligence androids is heavily discouraged, but not officially illegal, just as long as an android is immediately registered and approved before creation. As such, there are a few eccentric engineers throughout the various continents still creating them.

Androids do not need to have a sex/gender (Though it's recommended for ones built to resemble an existing race).

Noteworthy Androids

  • SPD-14 - The first android to attain sentience.

Racial Passive

Robot (Racial Passive): Beep boop bop.
Positives: +10 Strength, Immune to the effects of fighting in a hostile environment, Gadgets don't take up inventory slots, Your death threshold is increased to -25%, you cannot be hit by the Hives or Plague Status Effects.
Negatives: Need to recharge when KOed, which can be done through a short 5 paragraph quest. Cannot drink Potions, but can still be affected by Spirits thrown at them in battle. You may not use gadgets unless they're grafted onto you by someone with the Engineering skill, which costs 2 aluminum and 2 wire and has a chance of failing (20% at 25 or less ENG, 15% at 26 to 50 ENG, 10% at 51 to 75 ENG, and 5% from 76 and up), destroying the gadget in the process.

  • Regarding the death threshold increase, keep in mind the base death threshold for most races is -15%. This is a -10% increase to become -25%, NOT an increase of -25%.
